Armação de Buzios or Buzios as it is fondly called is the jewel of Brazil sitting 105 miles East of Rio de Janeiro. Proudly called a quiet little fishing village during the off season, it swells with thousands of vacationers during the summer months and on holidays. The quiet little village becomes a raucous party town with couture boutiques, a great nightlife, gourmet restaurants and beaches, beaches, beaches!

Begin your night in Buzios with a stroll along the 4,000 foot Rua das Pedras as it has some of the best bars, nightclubs and pubs in the city. Rub elbows with visitors from foreign lands and enjoy sharing a drink with one of the locals. Blues, Jazz and Musica Popular Brasileira (MPB) pours out from some of venues tempting the stroller to stop in for a drink and some serious people watching. Keep in mind that the party does not really get started until around 2 am.  


Buzios is the perfect city for the gourmet. Master Chefs create masterpieces from the incredible and tasty local seafood. Italian, Thai, Japanese, Chinese, French and Moroccan are all featured in this gastronomic play land. The Rua das Pedras is the best place to find first-rate dining but be sure to wander along Bardot Beachfront where some of the best French cuisine can be found. There are prices to suit every pocketbook and every visitor goes away with a smile and a stuffed belly.

Daytime Fun

In Buzios the incredible weather means daytime is for outdoor activities. Windsurfing and wave surfing are very popular sports. Or try your hand at boogie boarding or a relaxing day of snorkeling.  Kayaks, sailbords, Hobie Cats and lasers are all available for rent. If you prefer boating then take a schooner voyage and do some deep sea diving.  For the visitor who wants to remain on dry land 18 holes of golf is a great way to spend a warm sunny day. Or, take a bike tour or a horseback ride through the rainforest. Whether you are looking for haute couture or little local arts and crafts, Buzios has something for every shopper. Lovely little clothing stores carry a large inventory or the most sophisticated international fashions. There are also plenty of stores selling both local and foreign handicrafts. Statues from India and musical instruments from Africa sit beside fiber lamps from Brazil and soaps from France. This is truly a shopper’s paradise as most stores are open until midnight. 

The Beaches  

With around 20 beaches it is no wonder this is the number 1 reason people travel from all over the world to Buzios. A vacation to this enchanting fishing village is not complete without trying to visit as many beaches as possible. There are some beaches that are very small and romantic with calm seas and soft breezes. Other beaches are surrounded by busy restaurants and bars and a party always seems to be going on. There are beaches with calm seas that are perfect for snorkeling and beaches with high waves for surfing and boogie boards. Some beaches are great for families and other are perfect for meeting millionaires. And there is even a beach where clothing is optional.  

Originally settled by slaves and pirates, this sleepy little hamlet was discovered in the 1960s by famed actress Brigitte Bardot. It quickly became the place to be seen and jet setters from all around the world flocked to Buzios. Despite the influx of visitors, this town manages to maintain is quaint fishing village aura which keeps people coming back year after year for plenty of rest and relaxation.
