Hiking or trekking around Buzios is quite easy to do, as there are many opportunities. Many of the lovely beaches in the area can only be reached by a short hike. Not far from Buzios is the Atlantic Forest that affording plenty of trekking opportunities

Aside from arriving by sea, the only way to get to Tucuns beach is along trails through some impressive native flora. Likewise there is a bit of hike to get from Azeda beach to Ossos beach. If you goal is to make it to Olho de Boi, this tiny beach requires a major trek through the forest. Be sure to carry the minimum amount of gear with you, as you will have to hike back at the end of the day when you are tired. Consider toting along mosquito repellant as these bugs are usually out in force early in the morning and at dusk.

Atlantic Forest

The Atlantic Forest used to cover 1.3MM km2 between the northern and very south of Brazil, from Rio Grande do Norte to Rio Grande do Sul, along the Atlantic Coast. Today it covers approximately only 95k km2, 7.3% of the original area.

It is one of the top five bio-diverse hotspots. It was titled a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1999. With over 250 mammalian species, 1,023 different types of birds and somewhere around 20,000 trees, this forest is the perfect place to spend a day hiking. There are several hiking trips available to this lush forest. Some last only a few hours and others can last several days. Check with the concierge at your hotel for a local guide to take you through the forest.

Surrounding Buzios is the Atlantic Forest. You can plan of taking at least one formal hike here to enjoy the amazing biodiversity of the area. Of course, a simple trek to the beach will also provide a view of some beautiful vegetation and animal life.
