Buzios is a peninsula surrounded on three sides with water. There are over 20 beaches located around Buzios too. As can be expected, water sports are the major outdoor activity in the area.
There are several beaches around Buzios that are perfect for diving and snorkeling. Snorkeler can find some incredible views of aquatic life at Joao Fernandes, Ferradurinha, Azeda, Azedinha and Forno beaches. Manguinhos is another popular snorkeling beach especially for children thanks to its calm clear waters. The diving is incredible all over the peninsula. There are day trips out to several of the islands where coral reefs have some amazing sea life. There are also three shipwrecks that are popular diving spots.
Surfing, windsurfing and kitesurfing is best for those beaches with high surf and strong winds. Buzios is considered to have some of the highest waves and is compared to Hawaii. The three beaches that are best for these activities are Tuncuns, Geriba and Pero.
The best time to surf at Tucuns beach is around 11am when the waves are at their peak. Pero beach is famous for its big tubes. Many of the beaches also offer instruction in surfing and kitesurfing.
Water sports are the number one activity in Buzios. Boating and sailing are also popular in addition to diving, snorkeling and the various forms of surfing.
